Privacy Policy

Summary

The public map tools are built to work without accounts and without storing personal data. Your location, if you choose to share it with a page, is used in your browser session to answer your query and is not saved.

Location data

Pages such as Current Elevation use the browser Geolocation API. Access is requested only after you tap an explicit button, and only latitude and longitude are read. These coordinates are matched against terrain data to display elevation; they are never written to a database, never attached to analytics events, and never shared with third parties. Closing or reloading the page ends all processing.

Map, search and elevation requests

Map tiles are fetched from open providers (OpenTopoMap, CARTO label tiles, Mapterhorn terrain data). When you search a place or address, the query is sent to this site's geocoding endpoint, which forwards it to the Nominatim service with no identifying account information, and briefly caches the result so repeat lookups are instant. Tile providers receive standard request data (such as IP address) inherent to any web request.

Cookies and analytics

The site may use privacy-friendly analytics to count tool usage (for example, how often the map loads or a search succeeds). These events contain no coordinates, no search text and no personal identifiers. If analytics or advertising scripts are enabled, their own policies apply to the data they collect; no account is required to use any tool.

Third-party content

Map pages embed tiles and search results from third-party open-data providers. Their availability and their handling of request metadata are governed by their respective policies.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will change with it.
